August, September & October 2015: A couch, a turkey and a wedding

February 18, 2016

In August, Roisin and I started what is essentially a lesbian promotions company called Schecter. (Insert nod to L Word-watching lesbians here.) So we started a monthly queer dance party called Saturday Night Beaver.

We wanted there to be loads of wee nuggets for our patrons. We put videos on the screens at the bar celebrating lesbian pop culture and chose some djs who we thought would understand our audience. And it wasn’t bad. We threw the first one during pride week and it was actually quite good.

The Windsor Star
interviewed us – you can check that out here.

I think we decided that if we were going to be in Windsor for a while we might as well make the best of it. So we started filling some gaps. As Windsor doesn’t really have a designated “lesbian hangout” – we made one.

Once we’d managed to pay off pretty much all of our debt we also decided to make ourselves comfortable, so we purchased a couch. A nice mid-century-lookin’ gray adult couch with wooden legs. We adulted. And time just kept sweeping by.

I had to laugh, in September Scott Moffatt came to town. As a Hanson-loving teen, the Moffatts were also on my playlist. It was a strange experience watching this isolated member messing around with synths. Weird, weird, weird. Also – thank god for the internet and the maturing of my musical palette.

I also designed and mailed out our Save the Dates. This weddang is gettin’ real.

Roisin and I also took on a turkey. We cooked it on our own as well as all the trimmings. No one died, we’re still together. I was well impressed.

Then, mid October, my sister got hitched at a private ceremony. It was pretty quick but her and her dude decided it was time and they did it their way. It was a lovely ceremony, a delicious meal and a superb celebration.

I continued with my two-job shuffle, Roisin continued to work full time at Villains … lather, rinse, repeat.

It was around this time that our itchy feet started to get pretty bad. This period of time was likely the beginning of the end. I think over the summer we could have clawed things back. But I’m pretty sure over the fall we started silently coming to terms with the idea that Windsor was a faux pas. That we’d done it again.

One saving grace was that we got new neighbours- and they’re AMAZING! They’re a lovely married couple from Hamilton and they love cats and they love music and teen movies and they’re not loud and they don’t mind lesbians and it’s so nice to feel safe in our home.

This is our neighbour Alex at Halloween:

September-October 2013: Autumn + Halloween… & remembering Awn

July 29, 2014

These catch-up posts from 2013 were something that I threw together over the Christmas holidays while I was still lingering around at my folk’s place at New Years. So a) it’s extra sad that they’re just getting posted now but also b) I’ve kind of forgotten what photos I had thrown into these galleries.

I had a bit of a jolt with this one because the second photo in the gallery is from my friend Awn’s #neonforawn campaign that began in order to keep her spirits up while she was dealing with chemo treatments for cancer. I think my initial intention was maybe to share a link to the instagram and Facebook posts and try and get some of you to join in as well- but Awn passed away on June 11th at 31.

I can’t really find the right words to express this loss. She was an absolutely phenomenal human being.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs tune was played at her Celebration of Life. This was the song that she would have liked to dance to on her wedding day.

Carrying on with the catching-up, autumn meant delivering the student survival guide to all of Montreal’s colleges and universities, it meant decorating the flat for the season and we also had a pretty girly night helping our pal Amanda with some relationshipness. (Which really meant a great excuse to eat a lot of cookies.)

Once while working at a Starbucks Michel from Gilmore Girls showed up and I lacked the courage to take a photo with him so all you get is my stealth shot. MICHEL!

We became pretty close friends with a comedian Kate Conner, her husband Jeremy and their four kids. They turned Roisin on to vegetarian food which was a bit of a task ;) On my birthday Amanda surprised me at the Drink ‘n Draw that I used to run at Notre Dame des Quilles with a cake. It was pretty fancy. On the actual day I of course, ate chocolate cake while watching Home Alone… as I do every year. Roisin got me a bunch of lovely photos from our relationship thus far, printed out via this Instagram crafty-scenario.

We became pals with the ladies from Diamond Bones and went to see them play… all the time. They’re friggen incredible. And my work paid me to check out fancypants Toqué‘s lunch menu. It was intense. And tasty. Intensety.

And then of course, on Halloween I got all gussied up as Joan from Mad Men. It was probably the best costume I’ve ever done/the most effort I’ve ever put into a costume. It was a hit, aside from the one chick who thought I was trying to be Adele…

September, October and November (so far)- updatey!

November 22, 2010

Hey there,

It’s been a really long time since I’ve last blogged… again. So you get a really huge post with 59 photos. FIFTY NINE :O

Here’s a photo of the epic “Nintendo-thumb” that I received after playing the Scott Pilgrim video game a little too aggressively. heh

On a nice sunny day when Adam and I were both off work we went to Heaton Park and were both intrigued by this bird. Does anyone know what it is?

We also said hello to this peacock.

Then like a small child I couldn’t resist climbing on top of the sculptures outside of Heaton Hall.

We believe that this is a yak. It have cloven hooves.

I was practicing my Top Model poses ;)

Our friends Beth and Paul got married on September 11th- this is how Adam prepares the night before:

Me all set and ready to go to Sheffield!

Then I noticed while I was getting ready and taking narcissistic photos- that I could see Adam checking himself out behind me in the frame ho ho ho!

That’s how a Hotwell stays Hot

Mr. and Mrs. Riddlesworth!

The delicious cake. For reals, it was tres delicious.

Father of the Bride-

And this is where we slept in the cow tent. I don’t think in my life I will ever wake up to a view like that again-

Then later that month we also had a saunter through the Captain America set as they were filming portions to look like old New York in Manchester. Hooooraayyy architecture!

At the end of September I attended the monthly drink’n’draw where I consumed this epic hot chocolate with all the marshmallows. All of them.

October 1st is my day of birth. I turned 26 this year and this is Adam documenting me opening my gifts. (Paperchase is the best. BEST!)

This was a teapot from my BFF Arturo and tea cups from Adam!

Home Alone (the best movie ever!) from Adam

Pantry Peepers ovenmit from Paperchase

Annnnd the matching apron and tea towels- all from Adam

Then … an Xbox battery pack… I assume so we can continue to play Scott Pilgrim together without wires and such in the way…

I was kinda giddy

My somewhat lopsided birthday cake heh ;)

Hair now straightened due to the hair straightener that Adam’s mum got me, I am blowing out my birthday cake candles! (All 26 of them)

Then we spent the morning eating cake while watching Home Alone *glee*

At some point we tried this Italian place by our apartment- this is the pretty little outside part-

I don’t think we realized that we’d be getting little crispy whole fish in our appetizer- not my idea of delicious- I assure you we ate many- well, Adam ate lots… I just tried em. But after a while… just ew…

These are a few photos Adam took- the living room:

View from our living room window-

Some of my Halloween decor:

At the end of October I also went back to Canada for my friends Jim and Stacy’s wedding and to visit my folks of course. The following two photos sum up the event perfectly. Words really aren’t necessary- This was Total Eclipse of the Heart:

(Please note Stacy made that dress herself HOLY POOP am I right!?)

Then we’re into November where I hung out with Adam and Chris Dillon and we went out for my first bonfire night :D woo Guy Fawkes Day!

We got to go on fair rides and look at a large pile of wood on fire ;)

This is a random photo that Adam took of me after work one night laying on the couch as he thought it looked like I had a green beard.

November 11th is not just a special day to remember. It is also Adam Cadwell’s birthday. So this is what he woke up to- a trail of penguins leading to the living room.

Oooo presents!

I also made him a Vimto cheesecake

His loot-

We had a house-warming/ birthday party on the 12th so here he is blowing out his cupcake candles

And there we have it- a very large re-cap. I hope you enjoyed it
