The Decemberists @ The Academy- Manchester

On March 10th The Decemberists came to town for the Popes of Pendarvia tour celebrating the release of their new album “The King is Dead”. So of course I went to the gig.

The set list was as follows:
The Infanta
Down by the Water
Rox in the Box
Rise To Me
Annan Water
Won’t Want for Love (Margaret In the Taiga)
The Crane Wife 1 & 2
The Crane Wife 3
Don’t Carry It All
Calamity Song
January Hymn
The Rake’s Song
Sixteen Military Wives
This Is Why We Fight

Eli, The Barrow Boy
The Mariner’s Revenge Song

Encore 2:
June Hymn
Ask (The Smiths cover)

They are easily one of my favorite bands to see live- the “Hazards of Love” concert blew my mind.

I was really lucky for a few reasons 1) That Bruno Mars was playing a show next door and thus the entire youth population of Manchester was in line waiting to get in thus allowing the line for this show to be quite small 2) Had some groovy chit chats with some Washington-Portlandy-Egypt folk in line beside me. It’s allll part of the experience ;) 3) I got to the very front again allowing for some sweet, sweet photos. (You can see my photos from my last Decemberists experience here.)

The opening band was Blind Pilot who I definitely recommend. They were delicious.

And here are my photos. Enjoy! (Sadly not as ooo and aaahhh as last time but still quite decent)
