This is so beautiful…
Kseniya Simonova is a Ukrainian artist who creates sand drawings in front of audiences. Here she is performing on Ukraine’s Got Talent:
“Here, she recounts Germany conquering Ukraine in the second world war. She brings calm, then conflict. A couple on a bench become a woman’s face; a peaceful walkway becomes a conflagration; a weeping widow morphs into an obelisk for an unknown soldier. Simonova looks like some vengeful Old Testament deity as she destroys then recreates her scenes – with deft strokes, sprinkles and sweeps she keeps the narrative going. She moves the judges to tears as she subtitles the final scene “you are always near”.”

Truth be told, this isn’t going to be a super duper incredible post. For this, I apologize.
But it is going to be packed full of exciting and interesting things to look at!
I’ve always had a fascination with Atlantis. I don’t know if it’s because I played way too much Eco Quest as a kid. The whole “underwater kingdom” thing was kind of alluring. I’ve been meaning to post this for a long time now- but they think they may have found the real thing via Google Ocean.
Atlantis on Ocean floor of Africa?
As much as Twitter is the new hip thing to play with- I’m sure we all still love Facebook. Christopher Butcher posted a link yesterday on his Facebook which made me lol.
Facebook in Reality
(If you have Facebook you will have to log in to see this sucker- if you don’t give youtube a try)
I also came across the following video:
What happens to stuff left in a foreclosed house?
I found this video to be extremely depressing. They send so many useful things to the landfill. I can understand that yes it takes a lot of time and money in order to co-ordinate pick up times with charities and whatnot, but this is SO wasteful. I don’t know why they wouldn’t even allow the general public to pick things over prior to the pick up day. If I owned a thrift store I would try to make some kind of deal with these people in order to find a home for these objects. Isn’t it worth paying the extra funds to give the clothes to people who need it- to send the food to shelters- … I just… my mind is blown. There has to be a better way. HAS to be. Hrrrm.
It’s a fantastic book, but they discuss Chinese Foot Binding. I actually almost gagged at one point. The book does give you some insight into these traditions and explains the meaning behind them, but I still can’t help but feel a little weird about it.
After the last few books that I’ve read I can’t help but feel extremely lucky to be a woman at this point in history. I am so lucky. So very, very lucky.
